Students choose their classes for the most part and they can choose to walk out of a class. If a student knows there is something that the teacher might discuss and they can't take another class, then they can share the information with the teacher. Then maybe the teacher can work with the student on something else they can do to help the student still learn information that they need. This can't always work and I know some people want some privacy. But if it is a serious issue, then it would be wise to give the teacher the information so they can work with you and not against you. I also know that in some cases things come up out of the blue without warning. The teacher can't know everything that can trigger an episode. What they can do is come up with an opening sentence at the bringing of school or every class, that if anything become offensive then they can walk out of class but be given an equivalent assignment for participation. Hopefully kids won't abuse the system. Kids need to be prepared for the world and they can't if they copout or abuse the system. It's meant for legitimate needs.
